TOEIC in Thailand:
Passport, Cash Fee, Check Khurusapha

At our office in Ban Lum, the TOEIC questions mostly come from non-native teachers: do I need it, what score, and where do I sit it? The short version: not every teacher needs it, 600+ is a common benchmark rather than a law, and CPA Thailand runs the test, not us.

Who Needs It: Mostly Non-Native Teachers

Your school and TCT decide. Ask before you book.

Common Use

Non-Native Teachers

If English isn't your first language (for example, teachers from the Philippines, Europe or Latin America), a TOEIC score is a common way to show your English level to your school and to TCT. See non-native teachers in Thailand.

TCT and Schools

The 600+ Benchmark

600 or higher is a common benchmark that schools and TCT use for non-native teachers' licence paperwork. It's not a law we write, and the test itself has no pass or fail. Ask your school what it accepts. See the teaching licence in Thailand.

Commonly Exempt

Native Speakers

Passport holders from countries such as the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand are commonly treated as exempt from an English test. That's how it's usually applied, not a promise: your school and TCT still decide, and some accept IELTS or other tests instead.

Where Your Score Goes

Your score report usually goes into your school's paperwork for TCT, alongside your degree. Read the teaching licence guide, the TPDI 7-module training and the Thai work permit guide, and don't forget TM.47 90-day reporting.

📌 How long a score counts: ETS generally reports TOEIC scores for two years after the test date, and a school or TCT may want a recent report. Ask what they accept and check CPA before booking. Keep your original score report with your degree and transcripts.

Booking: CPA in Bangkok or Chiang Mai

CPA Thailand (Center for Professional Assessment) runs the TOEIC in Thailand. Book with CPA directly.

Head Office

Bangkok (Asoke)

CPA's head office is at BB Building, 19th Floor, Asoke Montri Road (Sukhumvit 21), near BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit. Phone: CPA's site listed 0 2260 7061 (ext. 108 for English) when we checked. Numbers change, so confirm on cpathailand.co.th before you call.

Set Dates

Chiang Mai

CPA has a Chiang Mai office (Siriphanich Building, Huay Kaew Road) and holds open testing there on set dates. It's the nearest option for teachers in the North, including Sukhothai. Check the schedule on cpathailand.co.th and book early.

Agency Role

KET Is Not a Test Center

Kids English Thailand (KET) is a teacher placement agency. KET is not a test center, we don't run or book the TOEIC, and we aren't CPA or ETS. At the time of writing, CPA takes personal bookings by phone at least one working day ahead.

Test Day: Passport, Fee, No Phone

CPA's rules when we checked. They can change, so check CPA before booking.

Required ID

Original Passport

Bring your original, unexpired passport. If you have a Thai work permit, CPA also lists it as ID to bring. Photocopies and phone photos aren't enough. ID rules change, so check CPA before booking.

Security Rule

No Phones in the Room

Phones, watches of any kind, electronics, bags, books and papers stay out of the test room. CPA gives you somewhere to leave your things, but it isn't secure storage, so bring as little as possible.

Payment

The Fee

The fee commonly cited is 1,850 THB, and CPA's page listed 1,800 THB for personal test takers when we checked, paid on test day. Fees and payment options change, so confirm on cpathailand.co.th and bring cash to be safe.

Arrive an Hour Early

CPA asks you to register one hour before your session, and check-in closes shortly before the start. Late arrivals can be turned away and charged a fee on their next booking. Check CPA before booking.

How to Book and Sit the TOEIC in Thailand

Four steps, from asking your school to keeping your report:

  1. Ask Your School What It Accepts: Before you book, ask your school whether you need a TOEIC at all, what score it wants and how recent the report must be. Native speakers are commonly exempt, but your school and TCT decide.
  2. Check CPA and Book: Check dates, fees and rules on cpathailand.co.th, then book with CPA in Bangkok or on a Chiang Mai open-testing date. At the time of writing, CPA takes personal bookings by phone at least one working day ahead.
  3. Bring Your Passport and the Fee: Bring your original passport (and your Thai work permit if you have one) and the test fee; cash is the safe choice. Arrive an hour early and leave your phone outside the test room.
  4. Sit the Test and Keep Your Report: Answer 100 Listening questions in about 45 minutes and 100 Reading questions in 75 minutes. Check CPA for how and when results are released, give your school a copy and keep the original with your degree.
