Frequently Asked Questions.

Is there any program fee or placement charge to volunteer?
Zero. Volunteering with Kids English Thailand is 100% free with no recruitment, agency, or program fees. You only cover your personal living expenses and any optional hotel accommodation or Sunday van transport you request.
Is a formal university degree required for this volunteer residency?
No. Unlike legal paid teaching jobs in Thailand which strictly require a Bachelor's degree for Ministry of Labour Non-B work permits, our volunteer residency focuses on skills, youth mentorship, and community service. Gap-year participants and professionals without degrees are welcome.
What visa is used for the volunteer residency in 2026?
Volunteers enter under the standard visa exemption scheme (60 days for qualifying passports, or 30 days extendable for 30 additional days locally using form TM.7 for 1,900 THB). All travelers must complete their free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) within 72 hours before arrival.
Is a criminal background check mandatory?
Yes. Because you will be interacting with children in community classrooms and English camps, a clean National Criminal Background Check (such as an FBI clearance, DBS check, or equivalent) is required for safeguarding.
How are accommodation and Bangkok transport handled?
Volunteers are free to arrange their own accommodation in Sukhothai. Alternatively, KET can coordinate a private air-conditioned hotel suite (approx. $15–$20/night) and a scheduled Sunday VIP van transfer from Bangkok Mo Chit 2 on arrival.
How do I apply or join the volunteer residency?
Simply email Matthew John directly at matthew@kids-english.org with your target dates, background skills (youth mentorship, classroom help, or media lab), and whether you need optional hotel or Sunday van assistance.
How does this compare to KET's paid jobs or the Experior residency?
This page is our free, skills-based community volunteer track ($0 fee, no degree required). Paid teaching contracts require a Bachelor's degree and Non-B visa sponsorship. The Experior residency is a specialized 4-week academic internship (£1,449 with ฿4,000 completion fund) with university credit.
