We have placements for English teacher jobs and specialist subject placements if the degree matches the subject taught.

Kids English Thailand offers immersive experiences through a supportive community, comprehensive training, and cultural engagement. Let KET get your teaching English in Thailand journey off to an incredible start!

Why Teach in Thailand?

KET's Teah Abroad Program is a one-of-a-kind experience to immerse yourself in a new culture, learn a new language, and make a difference in the lives of Thai students. Thailand is an excellent destination with its history, natural beauty, and warmth; whether you are looking for a short-term adventure or a long-term career, teaching in Thailand can be a game changer.

Picture waking up to the sounds of a Thai city, having a breakfast of fresh tropical fruits, and heading to a classroom full of Thai students ready to learn English. As a teacher, you'll inspire and motivate young minds and help them develop language skills that will open doors to future opportunities. Outside the classroom, you'll explore Thailand's culture, from ancient temples and busy markets to beaches and jungles.

Teaching in Thailand also means building relationships with your students and colleagues and being part of a community. Whether you're a native English speaker or a non-native English speaker, teaching in Thailand is career and personal growth.

Qualifications & Requirements

To get an ESL teaching job in Thailand, you will need a bachelor’s degree in any field and a TEFL certification or a teaching license from your home country. Some schools may also require a master’s degree or specialized certifications, such as a degree in education or a subject taught, such as math and science.

Having the right qualifications meets the legal requirements to teach in Thailand and prepares you to deliver quality education to your students. A TEFL certification, for example, provides essential training in teaching English as a foreign language and gives you the skills and confidence to succeed in the classroom. For non-native English-speaking teachers, showing English proficiency through the IELTS or TOEIC test is crucial to getting a teaching job.

Getting a Thai teacher license and work permit is part of the process, and your employer or recruitment agency will usually help you with the paperwork and application. This lets you focus on your teaching journey without worrying about the administrative details.

Bachelor's Degree

A four-year bachelor's degree from a recognized university is usually required to teach English in Thailand. Your degree can be in any field if you have higher education. But if you want to teach science or a subject, e.g., math, then you need a degree.

Be prepared to bring original copies of your degree, transcripts, relevant certifications, and a police clearance certificate to confirm your good conduct. These documents are necessary to validate your qualifications and background so you meet the legal requirements for working in Thailand.

English Proficiency & Teacher Age Range

If you are not a native English speaker, you must show your English proficiency. This can be done through standardized tests such as TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS, with a score of C1 and above. Discuss this during your interview with KET to clarify any specific requirements or options that are available to you. Most teaching jobs in Thailand require applicants to be between 22 to 60 years old. A clean bill of health is required, and candidates must not have any mental health or learning difficulties, as the country does not allow teachers with such conditions to work in the classroom.

Teaching Experience

Teaching experience is helpful but not necessary. Many schools look for passionate new teachers. KET provides full training and support for success, including supervised teaching practice, which is good for getting hands-on experience and feedback. These entry-level TEFL jobs are good for two years of experience, which is required for international schools or more prominent countries.

Salary and Benefits & Paid Thai National Holidays

Teaching jobs in Thailand offer a competitive monthly salary of 30,000 to 36,000 THB. Thailand's low cost of living means you can live comfortably. For example, a KET teacher spends only 3,500 baht monthly for a furnished, air-conditioned apartment. Get over 19 days of paid time off to experience Thailand's many cultural festivals and holidays—schools in Thailand close in October, so foreign teachers get paid time off this month. However, most schools will not pay in April, the Thai summer. Teachers will be on unpaid leave. But there are opportunities to work extra to top up your income during this time. Some schools will provide health insurance for foreign teachers. KET will organize accident insurance for all KET teachers.

Do I need to speak Thai in the classroom?

Public schools in Thailand are English immersion schools, and students are encouraged to speak only English in class. But learning Thai has many benefits:

Learning Thai helps you understand the culture and interact with locals.

Knowing Thai makes traveling easier.

Learning Thai shows respect for Thailand and its customs.

Some Thai lets you enjoy local movies, music, and TV shows.

While English immersion is essential in schools, the benefits of learning Thai outside the classroom are huge. Building relationships with local Thai teachers can also enhance your teaching experience and give you more cultural insights. The Thai team provides support and guidance through cultural activities, language classes, and a warm welcome to make the transition smoother for new teachers.

Do I need TEFL to teach in Thailand?

If you've ever wanted to teach English abroad, you may wonder: Do I need a TEFL?

The simple answer is it depends. Not every country requires a TEFL for teachers, but having one can boost your job prospects and give you the teaching skills you'll need in the classroom.

A TEFL certificate is not required to teach in Thailand, but it's practical and will give you more opportunities in the competitive job market.
