UK Degree Legalization Process

UK Degree Legalization Process Step-by-Step Guide

Degree Legalization in the UK

Before you read the steps below, there is an Agency I found that can take care of everything. I don’t know much about them, I just found the website and went through and looked at their services, and they offer to do all three steps in 10 days.

To read about the Agency and its services:

Go to rapid-legalisations.co.uk/

Below is a step-by-step guide to legalizing a degree in the UK.

Step One-Take your Degree Certificate to a UK Solicitor

Ask the UK solicitor to certify a photocopy of your degree certificate. Any legitimate, UK-registered solicitor is fine, but they must sign and date the copy and stamp or write their contact details. This should cost between £5–10 per document.

The Legalization Office will reject your documents if you don't do this.

Note: you can also find a Notary Public to do the whole process for you, but it’ll be more expensive, and notarization is unnecessary. Here are the Legalization Office’s certification requirements:

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Step Two-Legalize your Document by the UK Legalization Office (FCO)

This part couldn’t be more accessible, mainly because the UK Government’s online service is

surprisingly efficient. It costs £30 per document.

First, go to gov.uk/get-document-legalised

  1. Start a new application and select the standard service.

  2. Select ‘degree certificate’ from the top searches section, and then put the quantity.

Your document format is a photocopy of the original degree certificate. There’s no need to send your originals to the FCO.

Complete the rest of the application by acknowledging that your documents are certified (or notarized) in line with the requirements, filling in your details, and paying.

Send your documents off in the post to Milton Keynes, wait for them to be returned by the government, and then go on to the next step.

Step Three-Get your Documents Legalized by the Thai Embassy in London

The third and final step is to send your solicitor-certified and FCO-legalized documents to the Thai Embassy in London to be legalized in Thailand. If you haven’t completed steps one and two, the Thai Embassy won’t be able to do anything with your documents. There is an application form for legalization; however, it seems Non-Thai Nationals don’t need to complete it. I found this on the Thai Embassy Website; it’s number 3 under documents issued in the UK.

Go to london.thaiembassy.org/en/page/81905-legalisation?menu=5d6636ce15e39c3bd0007344

I’d also suggest including a cover letter like the one below; this will clarify things for the Thai staff. You should also photocopy each of your documents (both sides (double-sided photocopy) so that the apostille sticker is included).

Don’t forget to include a pre-stamped return envelope or money (not sure) for the Embassy to return the documents to you. It should cost around £2.50-£3 (Maybe) for them to return your documents First Class.

The other option is to reach out to the Thai Embassy and discuss with them if the Embassy is open or if it is postal service only, etc... Hopefully, they will be helpful and inform you of the steps and the correct address, etc...
