Non-Immigrant B Thai Visa Run in Hanoi Guide

This is an Easy-to-Follow Guide when Applying for a Non-Immigrant B Visa at the Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi

Subsequent classifications of people who qualify for the Vietnam visa waiver policy

Passengers who are allowed entry into Vietnam have a stay duration of 15 days from the entry date (including the entry date and the next 14 days of stay) and are nationals of the following countries:

  1. The Republic of Belarus

  2. The Federal Republic of Germany

  3. The Italian Republic

  4. The French Republic

  5. the Kingdom of Denmark

  6. the Republic of Korea

  7. Russian Federation

  8. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

  9. The Kingdom of Norway

  10. Japan

  11. Finland

  12. Sweden

  13. The Kingdom of Spain

 *Note*The visa waiver policy applies to this category of passengers from March 15, 2022, to March 14, 2025.

At the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam

The Thai embassy accepts visa applications between 8.30 am and noon, Monday to Friday. 

All the forms you need are in the waiting area, along with examples of how to fill them out.

Once you complete the forms, hand in the paperwork, passport, and money, and they will give you a receipt, then come back the next business day in the afternoon to pick up your passport and new visa.

  1. Pre-booking a return plane or a bus ticket is not advised under any circumstances.

  2. Not booking return tickets is a precaution in case something happens that is unexpected.

  3. Only once your documents have been handed into the Embassy and accepted by the Embassy staff is it safe to book return tickets.

Before you leave for the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam

  1. Have all your visa paperwork/documents packed and ready (you cannot get a Non-Immigrant B Visa without the correct paperwork)

  2. Bring all original documents-Just in case you are asked for them.

  3. Have extra photocopies of your passport, and have a photocopy of the Thai stamps in your passport

  4. Have at least three passport-sized photos (bring a few extras for backup)

  5. Have your accommodation reserved in Hanoi (you may need an address for the Hanoi visa on arrival)

  6. Have your current school’s address in English

  7. Have your current Thailand address in English

  8. Have your headteacher or staff representative’s full name, address, and phone number (in English to use as a guarantor on that section of the form)

At the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam

The Embassy opens at 08:30 am and only receives applications till 12:00. I recommend trying to get there a bit earlier if you can in case the lines get long. Also, get a Photocopy of your Vietnam visa and put it at the back of the paperwork; sometimes embassies ask for the visa. 

Thai Non-Immigrant B Visa Form at the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam

The form will require the following:

  1. Two photos,

  2. Your Thai address,

  3. A guarantor in Thailand can be your Thai headteacher or director. You need their name and phone number and your school’s address.

  4. The form requires your last entry dates into Thailand, which are easy to find in your passport.

  5. Put the completed Visa Form on top of the rest of your non-B paperwork that has been provided to you.

Wait to submit your application.

The Non-B Visa will cost 2000 baht.

Once you submit your paperwork and payment, you will be issued a receipt. *Keep this in a safe place* as you will need it when you return the next day at around 16:00 (or what time they tell you)* when collection begins. 

NOTE: If you submit it on a Friday, you can’t get your passport back until Monday.*

The next day at the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam

The Embassy lines to pick up passports go reasonably quickly.

Once you’ve picked up your passport, check the visa inside, and head back to the airport.

Once you land in Thailand, Immigration officials will scan your fingerprints and stamp your passport, allowing you to stay in Thailand for 90 days.

Congratulations, you are now back in Thailand with a 90-day Non-Immigrant B Visa for teaching.
